Dogs Sent to Newtown, Provide Comfort for Families of Victims

The residents of Newtown, Connecticut were greeted this week by a group of furry friends.

About 10 golden retrievers from the Chicago area Saturday, as Lutheran Church Charities in that city thought the canines could provide some level of comfort for those affected by last week's horrendous shooting.

Comfort Dogs

"Dogs are nonjudgmental. They are loving. They are accepting of anyone," said Tim Hetzner, the organization’s president. "It creates the atmosphere for people to share."

The dogs attended the interfaith gathering on Sunday night and listened to the President Obama Newtown speech, as community members spent time with the animals in silence.

Yesterday, they stopped by local schools and befriended children still trying to process all that went down last Thursday.

THIS has got to be one of the most beautiful, selfless, loving, heartfelt, gestures that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in all my years on this planet...I am still saddened by the senseless tragedy, and will never understand it,but---This wonderful act of kindness leaves me speechless, and wiping away some tears...Why has this sort of thing never been thought of before? It's so simplistic, yet so real and has to be somewhat curative,or healing if you will,to those who are definitely and terribly in-need of such right now...To the church or whomever is responsible---You have my undying respect and gratitude for coming-up with this and making it happen...GOD BLESS YOU ALL...And GOD BLESS the families and friends of those who were taken in that horrible tragedy last Friday...My Heart and Prayers go out to you All...May you all find Peace of some sort this Holiday Season...Hollywood.

That is a smart duty. When it comes to despicable human beings, animals do seem more angelic...
