Katie Couric makes a major, stunning admission on her talk show today:
The former CBS Evening News anchor struggled with an eating disorder as a teenager.
In an taped interview that will air across the country this afternoon, Couric sits down with Demi Lovato - whose troubled past is well-documented - and admits that she can relate to all Lovato has gone through.
“I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that,” Couric tells her audience. “And I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that’s wrong, you’re full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it’s one cookie or a stick of gum that isn’t sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that."
Lovato, of course, spent weeks in rehab toward the end of 2010, later admitting to an eating disorder, along with other body and self-confidence images.
During the segment, she says her problems began all the way back when she was three years old.
“I remember being three years old in a diaper and rubbing my hand over my stomach," Lovato says. "And I remember thinking in my head, ‘I wonder if one day this will ever be flat?’"
