When The Vampire Diaries Season 4 kicks off on October 11, fans won't just be treated to brand new episodes of this CW thriller.

They will also be privy to a brand new Elena Gilbert, as the formerly innocent Mystic Falls resident transitions into - SPOILER ALERT! - an official member of the undead.

And TV Guide Magazine has posted the first photo from the upcoming premiere, which depicts a bloodthirsty Elena... locked behind bars for some reason? That's what it appears like to us:

    My opinion is that Elena wants to be caught there so that she is not able to hurt anyone. Or she does not want to drink humans blood, but if she does not she will die... I am soooo much excited for season 4 :) Can't wait to see Elena turning into a vampire

    i think that Elena could be caught up in that cage after doing something bad maybe almost hurting someone or after doing the actual deed of ripping people's necks but i don't think that Damon and stefan would do that her, at least not when she's conscious merely for the fear of her snapping and losing control.

    wowwww....... i cant wait 4 the vampire dairies season 4 to start but as 4 me i will love it if elena and stefan end up together cos am team stelena and i think damon will go 4 rebekah.
