Sam Shepard, an actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright most recently seen in the Netflix drama Bloodline, was arrested on suspicious of drunk driving Monday.

After being pulled over in Santa Fe, the 71-year-old told a police officer that he had two drinks of tequila and was on his way home.

"Our officer could smell alcohol on his breath, and he had bloodshot, watery eyes," Santa Fe police Lt. Andrea Dobyns said.

She added that Shepherd refused to take a breath test, yet he did perform a field sobriety test, which he failed.

Shepard was arrested on a charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated outside La Choza restaurant in downtown and released on bond Tuesday afternoon.
