Charlotte, North Carolina turned into a near-war zone in September of 2016 after riots and violent protests broke out on the streets.

Citizens were up in arms over the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year old African-American, at the hands of a white police officer.

Protesters hurled rocks and bottles at police in riot gear. They also smashed windows and doors and looted stores downtown, while cops fired rubber bullets, tear gas, flash-bang grenades and used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
