GOOOOALLLLLL?
More like: NOOOOOOO!!!!
Japan defeated England in the semifinals of the Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, defeating their foes by a score of 2-1.
This sets up a rematch of the 2011 World Cup finals, as Japan will take on the United States Sunday for the most important trophy in all of professional soccer.
But that isn’t the focus of the sports world at the moment. Instead, we all just feel badly for Laura Bassett.
As depicted above, the British player scored a goal against her own team in the 92nd minute of the semifinal, assuring Japan of victory and proving that England may have worse athletic luck than the city of Cleveland.
Watch the tragic footage above and reach out to Bassett on Twitter. She could use your support right about now.
