Free at last, free at last, Ryan Edwards is free at last.
The former Teen Mom OG star was let go from jail on Monday, April 15, following a three-month stint that followed yet another drug-related arrest for the father of two.
He is still facing a charge of theft and heroin possession and may end up behind bars at some point in the future if convicted...
... but. for now, Maci Bookout's ex (and Mackenzie Standifer's husband) is back at home with his family.
For the sake of his children, we really hope he remains there.
Scroll down to get caught up on what landed Edwards in prison and where he might go from here:
Edwards was sentenced to spend three months behind bars after his arrest in December because he was related to an outstanding warrant. To be clear, this punishment was NOT a conviction. He may still stand trial and may still be sentenced to prison for his actual alleged crimes.
So This is Just Temporary?
Yes, possibly. Tennessee's Hamilton County Court confirmed to the public on Monday that the former Teen Mom star is no longer in custody.
What Were Those Alleged Crimes?
Police took Edwards to Hamilton County Jail in Chattanooga in January for "theft of services under $1,000" from a December incident in which he reportedly left a restaurant without paying is $36 bar tab.
That Sounds Very Petty
Well, it was still an illegal act if it occurred. Moreover, Edwards was also booked for a heroin possession charge stemming from an outstanding warrant. So that's the big one here.
On a Personal Level?
That $36 charge was for six whiskey drinks -- and Edwards has obviously had an issue with drug use over the years, so the situation just on the surface makes it clear things were not going well for Ryan. After all, drug addicts usually aren't advised to get into booze.
He Has a Long History
Edwards has struggled with addiction and drug dependency for many years. He was arrested for driving under the influence while on his way to his wedding to Mackenzie Standifer, 22, in May 2017. Yes, ON HIS WAY TO HIS WEDDING.
And They Still Got Married?
Yup. The couple proceeded with its wedding and more recently welcomed son Jagger into the world in October. However, Ryan missed the birth because he was in rehab.
What Prompted the Rehab Visit?
An arrest for drug possession in the summer of 2018.
Why Didn't He Go to Jail for That Offense?
Great question! Ryan only ordered at the time to complete six months of probation and random drug testing, according to Radar Online -- and soon after, he and his wife quit Teen Mom OG.
So They Claimed, At Least
"We're not returning to Teen Mom this season. The network told us they don't want to show Ryan as a recovering addict," Mackenzie said last year. "But they did want to enter a contract with our unborn baby and have the baby film with Ryan's parents so it would look like someone else is raising it."
This Was Just Their Side of the Story
MTV never commented on Ryan and Mackenzie being let go, but sources have said the network just didn't think it was appropriate to keep filing with someone who continually broke the law and who also clearly needed substance abuse assistance.
They've apparently changed their minds though, because the Edwards family has been filming for the next season of the show.
What Happened When Edwards Got Out of Rehab?
According to a few reports? He jumped on Tinder and tried to meet up with a woman he was hoping would supply him with cocaine.
We know, right?!?
Why Hasn't Standifer Left Him?
Because she loves him? Because they have a child together? All we can say is that Mackenzie has made it clear she's in this for the long haul.
He's My Husband!
"Are you and Ryan divorced?" one fan asked point-blank of Standifer a few weeks ago, to which Mackenzie replied simply, "Hell no."
How Many Kids Does Ryan Have?
Two. He welcomed Jagger with Mackenzie last fall and also shares Bentley with ex Maci Bookout, who is still a key cast member on Teen Mom OG.
What is Next for Ryan?
He appeared in a Tennessee courtroom after being released from jail on Monday afternoon. He still must face the aforementioned charge of drug possession.
Not the Theft Charge?
No. It has been dropped.
Standifer Has Confirmed As Much
“I had the charges on my credit card from where it was paid that day,” Mackenzie said previously of the $36 bar tab. “It’s not that big of a deal. It was paid that day. The charges were dropped Monday, February 4 at 9 a.m.”
Does That Mean Rehab? More Jail Time?
We simply don't know at this time. The charges may even get dropped. All options are on the table.
Edwards Really Hated Jail
His dad spoke to Radar Online prior to Ryan's release and said: "Ryan is excited to come home and be with all of us. He said he’s missed us and he loves us. I’m excited. It's been a long time."
How Bad Did It Get in There for Him?
In What Way?
We can't say for certain, but several lawsuits filed by former inmates make it appear as if Hamilton County Jail has a history of mistreating inmates. These lawsuits document how guards would harass inmates and serve them cold food.
Maybe Ryan Was Scared Straight?
We hope so. This is someone who once said he had a $10,000 per week heroin addiction, per a former TMZ article.
We Feel Bad for Edwards
Yes, he's been easy to mock over the years and of course we've chronicled his struggles. But we we keep saying: he is a father of two young boys. They need him around.
So... Good Luck to You, Ryan Edwards
It may make for great content if you were to go back to prison, but we hope you are able to avoid such a fate.
Standifer is Hopeful
“It was a decision we made together,” Mackenzie also said in the past about Ryan going to prison for these months. “To have him go to jail and then just be off probation for good…It was the smartest decision that could have been made. Otherwise, it’s a revolving door that you never get out of the system.”
We Have the Answer!
We now know what Ryan will do with his free time: Not spend any of it with his family!
Consider What This Source Says
“Ryan told Mackenzie, ‘The first thing I want to do is… I need a little time to be by myself,’” an insider told Radar Online of what Edwards actually said upon earning his prison release. “He’s had no private time at all."
And Mackenzie is Cool With This?
“She understands,” the source added. “She told him, ‘I’ve been taking care of these kids. You need to help me with the kids when you're done!’ She’s been really good. She’s been very firm with Ryan."
SIGH.... What Does Ryan Actually Plan to Do Then?
“He said he wants to sit in the woods for a whole day and not have to listen to anyone talk,” the source revealed. “He wants to get on his motorcycle and ride it."
What a Total Douche
Seriously, right?!? Go man up and be a father and a husband, dude.
Standing by Her Man
Because, as Ryan's mother, Jen, insists in another new interview, they're definitely staying together.
“Not true!” she said about the divorce rumors. “I think this has been taken out of context.”
So Much Venting
“I believe Ryan was venting a bit to Mackenzie at some point in a conversation because of the amount of people that can be in your ear talking about their problems and issues in jail,” she ecplained.
