Wait… what happened?!? Who died?!?
Who is the King? Who is the Queen?
The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale answered a number of questions, posed many more and left viewers absolutely reeling.
Here is a look back at the most memorable moments:
BOOM Goes Cersei’s Dynamite
Well, not dynamite. Wildfire. But the concept and result were the same: instead of attending her trial, Cersei BLEW UP the Sept, killing everyone inside. This include the High Sparrow and Margaery.
This Will Hurt
But that wasn’t enough for Cersei. She also had Septa Unella imprisoned in the Red Keep, giving the Mountain full reign to torture her previous tormenter with the only caveat being that Unella’s death be drawn out a long, long, long time.
A Problem with her Plan
After witnessing the carnage created by his mother, Tommen jumped out a window and committed suicide. Cersei has now lost all her children.
But Now She’s The Queen of the Seven Kingdoms!
So she has that going for her at least.
R+L = FINALLY!
Yes, Jon Snow is the child of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. He has both bloodlines running through him, he has a claim to the throne… and maybe he can even control some dragons.
The King of the North!
By the end of the episode, Jon Snow has been properly dubbed the King of the North. (But he best beware of Littlefinger.)
So Long, Melisandre!
After Davos discovered what Melisandre did to Shireen, he confronted her in front of Jon Snow and requested she be executed. Jon instead sent her down south and said she’d be killed if she was ever seen again in the North.
Got Ya!
Arya avenged the death of her mother and her brother by slitting the throat of Walder Frey. After making him eat a cake that had his dead sons cooked up inside of it.
Friends Forever!
Dany and Tyrion had a very nice little chat. The latter told the former that he believes in her, that he’ll follow her into battle the the Iron Throne and that she has broke through to his cynical heart. Dany, meanwhile, named Tyrion Hand of the Queen. We nearly cried!
Sam and Gilly Arrived in Old Town
Okay, this paled in comparison to some other development. But Sam got to finally see that huge library!
A New Alliance
Olenna Tyrell is now on Team Dorne, interested only in avenging the death of her family members at the hands of Cersei. She met with Ellaria. She spoke to Varys. And, remember, the Tyrells have the second largest army in Westeros.
Here She Comes!
And this meeting helped set the stage for the final scene, which featured Dany, her Hand of the Queen, all her ships, all the people on board them and three dragons flying overhead… heading to King’s Landing.
