NYT gay mafia member and Hillary Clinton tag-along Patrick Healy (who, we confess, makes our heart tingle) ain’t so happy with the treatment he and his gaggle of campaign trailers have been getting. In a note shot out to all pool reporters about what happened following a University of Iowa rally, Healy says Clintons camp gathered small groups of people in private rooms “and asked them to be county coordinators, etc.” What the Clintons didn’t ask for was any press to join them. Bad move, says Healy.
Please note: I asked the campaign if your pool reporter could attend these private events, at least the next one in Davenport. It was told no – that the Clinton political team had decided that these events should be private. I argued that these events were newsworthy events and that we were entitled to have a single pool reporter there, at the least, and also noted that our media organizations were expending significant resources to have reporters here – and that the press corps should not be restricted to only covering the same 6 rallies. I’m told the campaign would take my request and argument under advisement; it might help if other reporters and producers made similar requests.
So how is all this affecting Pat’s coverage? Well, yesterday there was a whole article devoted to calling Bill Clinton a sissy boy, but that just might be how we read into it. Even still, Healy managing to sneak in digs like this one, while discussing Bill’s role as supporter, not star:
Mr. Clinton is happily obliging with his new role, friends and advisers to the couple said, though they added that it was a far cry from his days in power. At a rally Monday in Des Moines, Mr. Clinton introduced his wife and then sat on a stool as she spoke for 25 minutes, applauding at some points and listening impassively at others while cradling his chin in his palm.
???Downright bored,??? Newsweek observed in a column afterward. Paying attention, his associates said. Jet-lagged, one friend added.
“About to age 10 years in the way Healy describes if Hillary doesn’t open up press access further,” we chimed in.
