Those familiar with Frozen, the Disney film which dominated the latter part of 2013 and almost all of 2014, know that Elsa erected her ice palace not to protect people from her powers but to protect herself from hurt.
“Please don’t shut me out again. Please don’t slam the door. You don’t have to keep your distance anymore” Anna sings. That’s what Emma tried to get Elsa to see this week on Once Upon a Time Season 4 Episode 2.
Elsa claims to have put up the ice walls around Storybrooke to keep anyone from leaving before she can locate Anna, but Emma recognizes this as a defense mechanism and calls Elsa on it.
Slowly the two women with mysterious powers find a way to understand one another.
Because Emma is stuck inside the ice, David and Hook have to work together to free her. That made for some comical moments between the father and suitor.
David also provides a link to Elsa and Anna and makes their appearance in Storybrooke less about cashing in on the success of the film and more organic.
David knew Anna when he was a shepherd, before he discovered Bo Peep was an evil butcher.
One side effect that Elsa didn’t count on was that her ice walls would take out the power in Storybrooke. Of course, this magical place doesn’t actually employ people to keep their power company up and running (because hello, TV) so Mary Margaret had to do the job. Alone.
Okay, okay, so that was pretty comical as Mary Margaret chided everyone for their reliance on modern technology after living without it for so many centuries in the Enchanted Forest. You’ll have to watch Once Upon a Time online to see it.
