As ABC’s answer to the superhero genre so popular in mainstream entertainment, Agents of SHIELD season 2 episode 2 was a strong installment for the sophomore series.
Going forward, the show will have to answer one question: Can Hunter the mercenary be trusted?
“Heavy Is The Head” jumped in immediately where Agents of SHIELD Season 2 Episode 1 ended, with viewers learning that Izzy and Idaho were killed in the car crash, Hunter surviving, and May taking off in pursuit of Creel.
Coulson tells her to back down and the chase ends abruptly as the mercenary is captured and taken in for questioning by General Talbot, who makes Hunter an offer nearly impossible to refuse:
Take out Coulson and give Izzy a proper burial for a cool $2 million.
Coulson somehow knows about Talbot’s deal and confronts Hunter, who says he’ll work for the highest bidder as all he really wants is vengeance. They all know that Creel must be stopped.
Raina gives Coulson Creel’s position and the team assembles to take him out, with Hunter joining them. When Creel touches the carbine, he’s made nearly invincible, and Hunter, the wild card, attempts to kill Creel, but only after knocking Skye, Triplett, and May out first.
Despite his betrayal, Coulson asks Hunter to join the S.H.I.E.L.D. team anyway. He needs skilled agents and Hunter fits the bill.
Skye’s father knows something about the obelisk and encourages Raina to touch it. When she does, strange writing appears as the object begins to glow. What mysteries does it hold?
