Last night’s nail biting finale of True Detective was difficult to watch. Literally.

HBO Go, a streaming service offered to HBO subscribers, was overwhelmed with viewers logging on to watch the finale. So overwhelmed, that most users who tried to stream the show after 9 pm were greeted with an error message.

If you’ve been keeping up with the 8 episode season, this shouldn’t surprise you. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (fresh off an AMAZING awards season), are perfect as odd couple Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, two detectives paired together to work a string of murders that appear to be ritualistic sacrifices.

If there were parts of the season that went over your head (Rust Cohle, though hypnotic in his pessimistic introspection, can be wordy at times), don’t fear. The finale is jaw dropping, yet manages to tie it all up with a neat(ish) bow.

If this doesn’t make the Emmy rounds, there truly is no justice.

HBO Go is now back up and running, so if you haven’t caught the finale yet, you’re in luck.
