Puerto Rican championship boxer Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho died on Saturday Nov. 24 in Puerto Rico after being removed from life support.
He succumbed to injuries sustained on Tuesday Nov. 20 when he was shot in the face while seated in a Ford Mustang owned and operated by his friend Adrian Mojica Moreno, who died at the scene.
Police found nine small bags of cocaine in Mojica’s possession, with a tenth bag open inside the car where the men were discovered. According to Puerto Rican authorities, no arrests have been made in the case that is believed to be a homicide.
He won super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world titles in the 80’s. In later years he battled drugs, alcohol and other problem. He spent a year in prison in 2007 for burglary and was also charged with domestic abuse twice against one of his wives before their divorce.
Camacho is survived by four children from different relationships. His eldest son, Hector Camacho, Jr., is also a boxer. Three other sons, Justin, Christian and Taylor, all live in the U.S. They traveled to their father’s bedside in Puerto Rico for a final good-bye before their grandmother authorized the removal of life support equipment.
