Patrick Dempsey’s Mom died earlier this week after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Amanda Dempsey was 79 and passed away Monday surrounded by her friends and loved ones.

Her battle with ovarian cancer prompted Patrick and his two sisters, Alicia and Mary to create The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Care & Healing six years ago.

Peter Chalke, President and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare released a statement about her death:

“The entire Central Maine Medical family mourns the passing of Amanda Dempsey. Amanda Dempsey was both a great lady and a determined fighter who displayed tremendous courage, class and grace during her long battle with cancer … We will miss Amanda deeply, but we were all blessed by knowing her and being inspired by her life story.”

The Center has raised over $5 million dollars since it’s opening. Our thoughts and prayers are with Patrick and his family.
