Things are not looking so good for the all-female concert Lilith Fair. Headliner Kelly Clarkson has pulled out of the traveling music festival to continue working on her upcoming album. The tour, which features Mary J. Blige, Norah Jones, Rihanna, Emmylou Harris, Sarah McLachlan and Loretta Lynn, has suffered from low 2010 ticket sales.
Ten of the original tour dates, August 4 thru August 16, have been canceled and some of the acts will only appear at a select few venues. The tour was founded in 1996 by Sarah McLachlan. She reportedly came up with the concept after becoming frustrated with the way women were being treated in the music industry.
Kelly Clarkson’s decision to pull out of the concert isn’t completely surprising. The former American Idol winner has had enormous trouble filling concert venues recently.
This downturn could spell doom for the all-girl tour. It might simply be a case of a great concept running its course. At any rate, we wish all of these fabulous and talented ladies good luck!
