Former Heisman trophy winner Herschel Walker has signed a multi-fight contract to compete in Mixed Martial Arts according to fight promotion company Strikeforce.

Walker, a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, has also trained in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo. He will begin a 12-week intensive training camp next month at San Jose, California’s American Kickboxing Academy with AKA co-owner and head trainer Bob Cook.

He has previously shunned free weight training, opting instead for a form of strength training used to develop muscular strength and endurance, where the only resistance to movement is one’s own body weight. He also follows a calisthenics and conditioning regimen, including hundreds of push-ups and pull-ups daily, while maintaining extremely low body fat.

Herschel said in a statement, “I want to prove to people who sit on a couch and don’t do anything but criticize other people that, if you’re a true athlete or martial artist, you’re not old until you can’t get up and walk around anymore. I will go in there and test myself against any 20-year-old.”

The 47-year-old athlete spent 12 seasons as a running back in the NFL, playing for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. He went on to compete in the 1992 Winter Olympics representing the U.S. in the bobsled competition, placing seventh.

Walker made a good showing during the past season of Donald Trump‘s Celebrity Apprentice, proving to be a worthy businessman among some very tough competition.
