Former WABC news radio anchor George Weber, 50, was found stabbed to death in his apartment this morning, according to Brooklyn, New York police. His body was discovered around 9:00 a.m., after employees at ABC News Radio asked police to do a welfare check at his residence when he did not show up for work.
Weber suffered stab wounds to his neck and upper torso and was discovered in his bed. He is believed to have died on Friday night, based upon the condition of his body. There were no signs of forced entry, and no murder weapon has been recovered. His brownstone apartment had been ransacked.
A Philadelphia native, he worked for WABC for more than a decade, doing a morning news program, before being laid off last year. He was currently doing freelance news anchor work at ABC New Radio, with his last newscast on Sunday, March 15. General Manager Steve Jones said the network was “shocked and deeply saddened by the death” and referred to Weber as “a consummate journalist”
He posted an entry on his blog on Friday morning – a rant about bedbugs. His blog bio indicates he started in broadcasting at the tender age of 16 at WBUX in Doylestown, PA. He spent the next 25 years working for KIMN, KOA, KTLK in Denver and then moved on to sunny California with stints at KMPC, KABC, KGO and KOGO before landing in NYC.
