Danni Starr’s “Dear John” Review!

I am as girly as they come! I love things that sparkle, the color pink and I am a sucker for a good love story! When the preview for “Dear John” referred to the movie as “the greatest love story since the Notebook”, I knew I had to see it and I definitely had expectations. A typical love story goes a little like this: Boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. So imagine my surprise when boy met girl, fell in love and had to go back to the Army. Already I was uncomfortable.

I believe that people should be close to each other. The movie takes you on an emotional roller coaster. There were numerous times during the movie when I thought to myself, are there any happy parts in this movie? Was the movie all-bad? No, it did have a great love story but nowhere near the love story portrayed in “The Notebook”. Quite frankly, I am offended that they compared the two.

I watched “The Time Traveler’s Wife” a few weeks ago with my future husband and as it ended, he looked at me and said, “Wow, who wrote that sad ass movie.” I laughed then, but now I totally understand. I left the movie unresolved, the twists and turns of the movie caught me off guard and as it ended my stomach was in knots. As the credits rolled I thought to myself, “Wow, who wrote that sad ass movie.”

I do think you should see this movie but please follow these guidelines:

  • Do not, I repeat, DO NOT see this movie on a date! It will make you and your date uncomfortable and it really is just too deep for a date night.
  • Do not see this movie if you are involved in a long distance relationship.
  • If you love love and think this will be a great Valentine’s Day movie to see, think again. Please stay far away from this movie on Valentine’s Day!
  • As a recently engaged woman, I can vouch that couples planning to get married soon should not see this movie together ever!
  • If you are emotional and you and your girlfriends just need a good cry, feel free to check this out.
  • Need to spend time with the parents? Take them! There is a true love story between a parent and a child in this film that they will appreciate.
  • If you are into movies that will catch you completely off guard…this movie is for you!

I’m Danni, I love movies!
