As expected, late night talk show host Conan O’Brien apologized to Levi Johnston on The Tonight Show for a sketch that appeared on Wednesday night featuring a poetic reading by William Shatner.

With a musical accompaniment, the Star Trek actor read the Twitter ‘tweets that O’Brien claimed were from the soon-to-be Playgirl centerfold model. As it turns out…they were not Levi’s words at all.

Levi contacted TMZ to say that his lawyer was all over the breach and would be seeking retribution from both Twitter and NBC for the outrageous gaff.

During Thursday’s monologue, Conan said, “Last night we paid tribute to one of Alaska’s great young poets. Apparently the ‘tweets’ that we read were counterfeit, written by a clever impostor posing as the witty Johnston. I’d like to personally apologize to Levi Johnston, his lawyer and his publicist for misrepresenting him in any way. We wish him the best of luck as he trains for his upcoming naked photo shoot.”
