Best selling political thriller author Vince Flynn died on June 19, 2013, following a three-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 47.

The prolific writer struggled in his early years with a learning disability, leading Vince to embark on a daily writing and reading regimen after being diagnosed with dyslexia, a disorder that can severely hamper reading comprehension.

Flynn revealed, “I started reading everything I could get my hands on, Hemingway, Ludlum, Clancy, Tolkien, Vidal. I read fiction, nonfiction, anything, but I especially loved espionage.”

He published his first novel in 1998 and went on to produce fourteen New York Times best sellers featuring under-cover CIA counter-terrorism agent Mitch Rapp.

The eleventh Mitch Rapp installment, ‘American Assassin,’ will begin filming this fall, with Bruce Willis in talks to assume the lead role on the big screen.

Vince Flynn, a Minnesota native, is survived by his wife and three children who reside in the Twin Cities.
