Forever a mystery? Families of missing passengers from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 learned yesterday that the aerial search for wreckage has been called off.
After seven weeks, authorities believe that any debris would have surfaced by now. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot was even quoted as saying that the chances of finding debris now are, “highly unlikely.”
This is just another blow to families who have yet to get any definitive answers. On April 28th, authorities played audio from the cockpit for them, but that provided little, if any, insight.
The truth of the matter is, these poor families may never know what happened.
The investigation has been plagued by uncertainty and missteps, resulting in a loss of precious time.
The new plan is to conduct an even more intense underwater search, that could take almost a year and cost nearly $60 million.
I hate to say it, but the longer this goes on, the more likely that this will remain a mystery forever.
