‘Good Morning America’ co-host Robin Roberts listed all of the things for which she is thankful on her Facebook page Sunday, including the revelation that she has been in a long-term relationship with a same-sex partner.
Roberts wrote, “At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude. I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life.”
She added, “I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”
Despite the fact that she has been out to her family, friends and co-workers for years, this is the first time that Roberts has spoken publicly about her girlfriend of 10 years, Amber Laign, a massage therapist in private practice who originally came from the San Francisco area. The couple met through mutual friends.
ABC’s Roberts sat down with President Barack Obama in May 2012 for his landmark interview to acknowledge his support for same-sex marriage.
She is currently writing a memoir about her health struggles and the lessons she learned from them. The book will be launched in April 2014.
