The host of ABC’s celebrity competition ‘Dancing with the Stars’ made an interesting pronouncement during Monday night’s elimination.

Tom Bergeron went through the normal ritual of announcing which couples were safe. With actor-comedian Bill Engvall left standing — it appeared he and his pro partner Emma Slater were the eliminated couple.

It turned out to be a case of smoke and mirrors. The show host smiled mischievously and confessed, “Hold on, hold on. Bill and Emma, you’re safe too.”

He added, “OK, time for an explanation. All of our couples are safe, no on is going to be eliminated tonight and here’s why. Last week at the end of the show we had a technical problem in the broadcast for the Eastern and Central time zones.”

“The incorrect phone numbers were shown and it resulted in votes accidentally cast for the wrong couples. So in fairness, we decided to discard all of the viewer votes and not eliminate anyone.”

Co-host Brooke Burke Charvet continued, “But all of the judges scores and points from tonight will be carried over and will be added to next week so be sure to vote for your favorite couple.”

The question remains — will there be a double elimination next week?
