Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe Giudice were indicted by a grand jury on federal fraud charges Monday.
The 39-count indictment charges the couple with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan application and bankruptcy fraud.
The ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ celebrities are charged with submitting fraudulent mortgage and other loan applications during a period spanning 2001 through 2008 and making bogus claims regarding their employment status and salaries.
They will make their first court appearance on Tuesday to answer the charges.
Joe Giudice is alleged to have earned nearly $1 million over of period of 2004-2008 but failed to file tax returns according to the federal government.
His wife is reported to have made false claims, prior to ‘RHONJ,’ on loan applications about having a job as an Executive Assistant — allegedly submitting false pay stubs and W2 tax documents. Teresa is also accused of concealing her true income earned from various businesses, rental properties and ‘RHONJ’ when the couple sought bankruptcy protection.
Bravo Network did not wish to comment but Teresa released a statement that seems to point the finger directly as her husband for their legal woes.
She said, “Today is a most difficult day for our family. I support Joe and, as a wonderful husband and father, I know he wants only the best for our lovely daughters and me. I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the government as quickly as possible.”
Her lawyer told the New Jersey Star-Ledger, “Teresa will plead not guilty. The judicial process that begins today … is a search for the truth. As it moves forward, we look forward to vindicating her.”
The couple have four daughters: Gia, 12, Gabriella, 9, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 4.
Will Bravo give Teresa the boot? Developing story…
