Frank Ocean was forced to cancel his Australian tour after suffering a torn vocal cord while kicking off the first of four sold out performances.

The 25-year-old R&B singer was struggling through the opening night of his Down Under tour at Melbourne’s Festival Hall Thursday night, quickly realizing that something wasn’t right. He schedule an appointment Friday with a doctor, who advised Ocean to stop singing until further notice.

Billboard posted a statement from Frank’s promoter: “After last night’s concert… it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show. It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice.”

The ‘Channel Orange’ entertainer has picked up several high profile awards this year. Frank won a pair of Grammy’s for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and picked up a BRIT Award as International Male Artist.
