Country legend Randy Travis, 54, suffered a stroke yesterday that required emergency surgery to release pressure on his brain. He remains in critical condition at Heart Hospital Baylor Plano in Texas.
He suffered a stroke not long after the medical facility issued a report that Travis was stable and showing signs of improvement.
The singers rep Kirt Webster confirmed the news, “As a complication of his congestive heart failure, Mr. Randy Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. His family and friends are here with him at the hospital. They request your prayers and support.”
Thursday morning it was announced that surgery had been completed and the country crooner remains in critical condition.
Doctors indicate that Randy was in “good health” before picking up a respiratory infection three weeks ago, which ultimately led to a diagnose of viral cardiomyopathy, a condition that weakens the heart muscle and causes congestive heart failure.
Travis was rushed Sunday to the emergency room at Baylor Medical Center McKinney near his home in Tioga, some 60 miles north of Dallas. After undergoing a surgical stabilization procedure which involved the insertion of a tiny pump into his heart via catheter, he was transferred to the renowned Heart Hospital Baylor Plano.
