Comedic actor Steve Carell plays a flamboyant Vegas magician in ‘The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,’ opening March 15 in theaters.

Loosely based on the famous magicians Siegfried & Roy, Burt attempts to reunite with his former partner Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi), to take on a popular and decidedly dangerous street magician (Jim Carrey).

Portraying Burt and Anton’s assistant is actress Olivia Wilde. Other cast members include Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, and Brad Garrett. Illustionist David Copperfield appears in a cameo as himself.

Early reviews suggest that Carrey is the funniest component of the film. Chicago Sun Times film critic Richard Roeper characterizes the film as “dark and wickedly funny.” He said that Carrey is “physical, he’s intense, he’s ridiculous. Carrey steals every scene with a take-no-prisoners ferocity that he hasn’t demonstrated in years.”

While promoting the film, Carell told a reporter, “Have you ever looked in the mirror and fallen in love with yourself? That’s how I felt when I slipped on that costume. It was cathartic. It felt like I finally found the real me, and I was jubilant.”

His spouse … not so much. “My wife hated every aspect of the way I looked in this movie. It was not a turn-on in any way, shape, or form for my wife. The first day on set, I took a picture and texted it to her and …I think her response was something like, ‘Oh my god! Really? This is what you’re going to look like for the next few months?”
