2012 Biggest Celebrity News Stories and Scandals

2012 celebrities

Now that we're nearing the end of 2012, it is the perfect time to revisit some of the hottest stories that rocked the wacky and sometimes wonderful world of celebrities.

Beginning our journey down memory lane twelve months ago, former Victoria's Secret model Heidi Klum and Seal released a mutual breakup statement in January: “While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul searching we have decided to separate."  The couple are both dating others since filing for divorce -- she has hooked up with her bodyguard.

Legendary singer Whitney Houston, 48, was found dead in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton Hotel room in February.  The cause of death was determined to be an unintentional overdose.  She left her entire estate to her only child, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.

On a sad note, "America's Oldest Teenager," Dick Clark, 82, died in April of a massive heart attack while undergoing an outpatient procedure.  He is best remembered as the iconic host of American Bandstand and decades of ringing in the New Year from Times Square.

A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got engaged in April.  Her sparkler, designed by Brad, was handcrafted by Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop.  The couple indicate their six children have been putting a great deal of pressure on their mom and dad to make their union official.

Power couple Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise ended their five year marriage in June with a decidedly quickie divorce that was initiated by the actress.  She was awarded primary custody of their only child, daughter Suri Cruise.

'Twilight Saga' celeb Kristen Stewart announced in July that she cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her 'Snow White and the Huntsman' director Rupert Sanders.  The couple reconciled after several months apart -- just in time to promote the final installment of 'Breaking Dawn.'

In August nude images of Prince Harry frolicking in Sin City were released to the media.  He made a mad dash back to London where he was assigned a new military tour of duty that is keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Tinseltown hottie Jennifer Aniston accepted a mega engagement sparkler in late August from her 'Wanderlust' co-star.  Jen's rep confirmed,  “Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, who accepted his proposal of marriage.”

Michael Duncan Clark, of 'Green Mile' fame, died in September at the age of 54 after suffering heart failure that left him on life support for nearly two months.  He is survived by his fiancee, Omarosa Manigault, who became a household name thanks to ‘The Apprentice.'

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel chose October to get hitched in Italy.  The high profile couple hosted a beach party with live music and firework as part of the festivities and issued a short statement, “It’s great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends.”

'Two and a Half Men' teen Angus T. Jones trashed his $300,000 per episode meal ticket last month by urging people to shun the "filth" during a religion-inspired video testimony that went viral on YouTube.

Halle Berry had a decidedly eventful Thanksgiving morning, watching in horror as her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry was beaten to a pulp by her fiance Olivier Martinez.  The altercation came days after a L.A. judge ruled in favor of her Canadian model ex, stipulating that Berry could not move their daughter Nahla, 4, to France.

We learned in early December that Duchess Catherine, aka Kate Middleton, was pregnant.  The news came on the day she was hospitalized for a severe case of morning sickness.  The news morphed into something far more sinister after two Australian radio DJ's made a prank call to a London Hospital, pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II.

Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, temporarily working the hospital switchboard, inadvertently put the hoax call through to the charge nurse overseeing Kate's care, who provided private details regarding her condition.  The following day Saldanha committed suicide and 2DayFM hosts Mel Greig and Michael Christian were removed from their jobs and their employer, Southern Cross Austerio, vowed to cooperate fully with police.

That's a wrap.  Forgive us for not including the antics of Lindsay Lohan.... clearly that is a whole story unto itself and we're not going there.
