Vidal Sassoon 1928 – 2012 …

Famed hair stylist Videl Sassoon died at his Los Angeles home Wednesday following a two year battle with Leukemia. He was 84.

He is credited with creating a simple geometric hair style in 1963. The short, angular hairstyle was cut on a horizontal plane that became known as the classic bob cut.

Sassoon opened a chain of worldwide hair styling salons that featured a full line of hair-treatment products. The enterprise caught on quickly with the help of his nationally televised commercials.

Vidal is now recognized as a craftsman who “changed the world with a pair of scissors.” His wash and wear philosophy liberated women and revolutionized the art of hairstyling.

Sassoon drew media attention in 1967 when he chopped off the long locks of actress Mia Farrow for her role in the iconic horror film Rosemary’s Baby.
