HBO has officially announced that “Entourage,” is coming to an end. The long-running television series will return in the Summer of 2011 for a shortened final season.

The show, which follows the rise of A-list movie star Vince (Adrian Grenier), and his childhood friends, is loosely based on co-executive producer Mark Wahlberg‘s experiences in Hollywood as an up-and-coming star.

In June, Wahlberg revealed the plan for a six-episode mini-season next year, explaining that he was interested in making an “Entourage” movie.

HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo confirmed that the series will end next summer, with the possibility of a movie to follow. “Doug clearly wants to write a film but wants to do it if it makes sense for the story,” Lombardo said this weekend at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We have a long-term relationship with Doug Ellin, and I’m sure you’ll soon see another series from him here. But next summer will definitely be the final season of ‘Entourage.'”
