California Proposition 8 was overturned on August 4, 2010 by U. S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker in the case of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Clearly the legal battle is far from over but the latest victory was still reason for excitement and hope.

Many of our favorite celebrities took to their Twitter pages to ‘tweet’ the good news to their followers.

Ellen DeGeneres: “Equality Won!”

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger: “This decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves.”

Lance Bass: “Congrat’s on the overturning of Prop 8!!!!”

P!nk: “It’s a good day!”

Sophia Bush: “A MAJOR step forward. Everyone deserves the right to love whomever they choose. I am proud to be from Cali again!”

Ricky Martin: “YEAHHHH! PROP8UNCONSTITUTIONAL MOVING FORWARD!!!!!!”

Kelly Osbourne: “So happy with the news about Prop 8, it’s about time.”

Samantha Ronson: “Song of the Day: Let’s Get Married – Jagged Edge.”

Our favorite one-liner came from actress Fran Drescher, who ‘tweeted’: “Congrats to CA for c-ing the light & rising above prejudice. U had me worried there! When Iowa is cooler than Cali, it’s time to recalibrate.”

We would be remiss if we failed to point out that the temporary injunction is subject to future appeals. The matter is expected to end up at the U.S. Court of Appeals.
