In the latest consumer recall involving toxic Cadmium, McDonald’s has issued a consumer warning to parents who have purchased Shrek-themed glasses featuring Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss n Boots and Donkey. Twelve million 16-ounce glasses, sold for $2 as a promo for the movie “Shrek Forever After”, are being recalled.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall on Friday. They issued a warning to consumers to immediately stop using the glasses.
The recall came after it was discovered that the painted characters on the glasses contained high levels of the toxic metal Cadmium, a known carcinogen that can lead to kidney problems, and bone softening.
McDonald’s has posted instructions on its website regarding refunds – LINK HERE.
This is the second consumer alert for Cadmium in recent weeks. Wal Mart discontinued selling their Hannah Montana jewelry collection after it was determined that the bracelets and necklaces contained high levels of the toxic metal.
