Simon Cowell’s Women: Mezghan Hussainy, Terri Seymour,

Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres, Carrie Underwood

The Season 9 American Idol Finale was a celebration for Lee DeWyze and a swan song for judge Simon Cowell. The two-hour FOX broadcast was as much about Simon as it was about choosing the next Idol winner.

The very special women in Cowell’s life hit the red carpet last night and we decided to showcase them for our readers. First, and presumably foremost in his life is his fiancee Mezghan Hussainy. Another very special lady, and apparently a lasting friend, is Terri Seymour. She lived with the British music executive for six years — their relationship ended in 2008.

Don’t even get us started on Paula Abdul, former Idol judge and exhibitor of odd behavior. She played a significant role last night in the observance of Simon’s departure.

Another Idol regular, judge Kara DioGuardi, stepped over to the dark size this year to join forces with the recalcitrant judge, unlike the previous year where she and Paula spewed ‘fluff’. This year it was clearly Kara and Simon united, and often at odds with the Randy and Ellen DeGeneres alliance. Make no mistake though, Simon IS an Ellen fan.

Last on Simon’s list of favorite women is Season 4 American Idol winner Carrie Underwood. He was smitten with her from the get-go and predicted that not only would she win the competition, but that her future singles and albums would outsell every other Idol winner. In a film clip featured on the AI Finale last night, he said, “I got that one right.”

Surprise guests included: Bret Michaels, who jammed with Casey James, and Janet Jackson who performed and rocked her new short haircut.

More photos below and be sure to check out the video honoring Simon, that includes Paula’s odd stand-up routine. Be forewarned – the Abdul piece is painful:
