A couple who were taking underwater photographs while snorkeling off the coast of Aruba in October 2009, snapped a picture that they have since turned over to the FBI. Upon closer inspection of one still photo in December, they were shocked to discover human skeletal remains that they believe could be the body of Natalee Holloway.
The photo was taken by 78-year-old retiree John Muldowney and his wife Patti Muldowney of Manheim, Pennsylvaia. They will appear tonight as guests on CNN show HLN with host Nancy Grace at 8:00 p.m. Natalee’s father David Holloway is also expected to appear.
FBI agent Brian Herrick said, “The photograph has been sent to our legal attache in Bridgetown Barbados and we will work with local authorities in the matter. It is certainly a possible investigative lead.”
The Alabama teenager went missing nearly five years ago while visiting Aruba with a group of high school graduating seniors. Her mother, Beth Holloway pressured Aruban officials to make an arrest in the case. Joran Van der Sloot and two other men remain suspects in her disappearance but no charges have ever been filed.
UPDATE Nov 16, 2010: Jaw bone washes up on Aruban beach.
