Tiger Woods made a beeline for his mother Kultida Woods immediately after reading his 13 minute prepared statement at TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra, Florida on Friday morning.
What did Tiger’s mother whisper in his ear in front of the entire world? She said, “I’m so proud of you. Never think you stand alone. Mom will always be there for you and I love you.”
Tiger’s mother told reporters that her son “wants to get better…he will start getting better. Golf is just like life, when you make a mistake, you learn from your mistake and move on stronger. That’s the way he is.”
She went on to say, “I am upset the way the media treated him like he’s a criminal. He didn’t kill anybody, he didn’t do anything illegal. They have been carrying on from Thanksgiving until now, that’s not right.” Referencing his return to Buddhism, she said it “will make him a much better person.”
Tiger’s invited guests included Amy Reynolds from Nike, Kathy Battaglia from Tiger Woods Enterprises, Rob McNamara of Woods’ foundation ETW Corp., PGA commissioner Timothy Finchem, and Notah Begay III, his former Stanford friend and now pro golfer – group photo below.
Elin Nordegren did not attend her husband’s speech but reportedly met him at their home some 45-minutes after he returned from PGA Tour headquarters. He will return to Hattisburg, Mississippi tomorrow to resume his treatment and therapy.
