Lindsay Lohan graces the cover of Purple magazine’s Best of the Season issue, in a controversial crucifixion style pose that was taken by photographer Terry Richardson. Dressed in a white flowing low cut robe, the actress is captured wearing a crown of thorns and has her arms outstretched in what some are describing as a blatant attempt to appear Christ-like.
Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League is particularly troubled by the French magazine’s attempt to portray Lohan as a celebrity martyr. He said, “Not only is the pose inappropriate, the timing is offensive.” Christians around the world begin the most sacred season of the church calendar with the observance of Ash Wednesday on February 17.
Not long ago Lohan ‘tweeted’ that she is “all about Karma..what goes around comes around.” Donahue quipped, “If she believes that, then it behooves her to apologize to Christians before it’s too late.” He went on to describe her as “spiritually homeless.”
Another celebrity was embroiled in a religious controversy in early December. Joanna Krupa posed for several PETA ads, using a large religious crucifix to shield her nudity.
