The remaining eight contestants performed songs from the year they were born on the FOX reality show American Idol on Tuesday night, April 7.
We’ve included the hot performance of Anoop Desai who sang True Colors from 1986. The judges were positively impressed. Randy Jackson said “I’m always impressed by you – very nice vocal.” Kara DioGuardi said “You controlled the song – it did not control you.” Paula Abdul called the phrasing beautiful and pronounced it fantastic. Simon Cowell called Anoop a singing yo-yo and said this week he was very good.
Danny Gokey sang the 1980 tune Stand By Me. Randy said “You’re an amazing singer…you’ve got some talent.” Kara said “You turned it on its head, you made it your own.” Cowell said “The beginning was good, the middle was lazy and the end was terrific.”
Matt Giraud sang the 1985 song Part Time Lover. Randy said it was vocally one of the best of the night. Kara said it was incredible on every level. Simon said it was a million times better than last week and Paula gave him a standing O.
