Forbes has put out their ‘Richest List’ and the story it reveals is quite interesting. It turns out that the economic woes that have plunged the world into the tank have spared no one. The list of billionaires dwindled over the past year from 1,125 to 793. By doing the math, $1.4 trillion is gone, gone, gone.

In fact, the wealthiest average net worth is down 23 percent in the past 12 months. Bill Gates regained top spot because he was fortunate enough to have only lost $18 billion, leaving him a net wealth of $40 billion. He overtook Warren Buffett, who lost $25 billion, leaving him $37 billion and second slot. Rounding out the top three is Carlos Sim Helu, who lost $25 billion and now has a net worth of $35 billion.
