Nick Viall is back for a fourth shot at love, and when you’ve been around a popular TV franchise that long, you have to take your lumps.
Or a literal slap in the face as the case may be. You don’t need The Bachelor spoilers to tell you how controversial this dude has become.
Just as Brad Womack took a walloping from Chantal O’Brien (his eventual runner-up) during his second turn, Nick endures a shot as well.
In a new trailer for the January 2 premiere, the two-time runner-up on The Bachelorette begins his "one last shot" to find love with a bang.
"If you think that this season will be smooth sailing, then you don’t know Nick," the not-at-all over-dramatic voiceover informs us.
Nick getting whacked in the face is one highlight of the promo. Among the others? Viall making out with someone hard on a yacht.
We also see the star crying over the side of a balcony and wondering aloud if being back on The Bachelor is really a smart idea:
"Fourth time’s the charm — question mark?"
In another scene, he says, "It just seems a little weird that she’s here," referring to the woman he banged at a wedding before the show.
These things happen when you’re Nick Viall.
Yet another snippet suggests that Nick may be in a compromising position, or on the cusp of one, with a woman. He says off camera:
"I don’t think this is a good idea."

Nevertheless, "The season is going very, very well," a show insider said. "Like, one of the best seasons ever. Nick is finding love … for real."
