Karine Ruby, former Olympic snowboarding champion, died in a climbing accident on Friday.
31-year-old Ruby fell into a crevasse on France’s famed Mont Blanc while guiding a tour near Chamonix.
The 1998 French Olympic snowboarding champion was roped to other climbers when she fell. Other climbers also fell, however, no further details are available at this time.
Ruby, a six-time world champion, won a gold medal in the giant slalom at the 1998 Nagano Olimpics and the silver in the parallel giant slalom at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
