Conan O’Brien launched his first Tonight Show broadcast on Monday, June 1, 2009. The guest list for his first week on NBC includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Ryan Seacrest, Sheryl Crowe, John Mayer, Julia Louis Dreyfus and Bradley Cooper.

Will Ferrell, currently promoting his latest movie Land of the Lost, was on hand to kick off the start of O’Brien’s reign. Pearl Jam performed The Fixer from their new album Backspacer – check it out below.

O’Brien appeared nervous and opted to use film clips rather than a full monologue. While pacing the stage, he said, “I remember watching Johnny Carson when I was a kid and thinking: That’s what I want to be when I grow up. I’m sure right now in America there is likely a kid watching me, thinking: ‘What is wrong with that man’s hair?'”

Conan’s guests on Tuesday will include Tom Hanks and Greenday.

Jay Leno ended his 17 year career on The Tonight Show last Friday by thanking Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky, George W. Bush and Michael Jackson for providing outstanding monologue material. See video here.
