David Letterman’s extortionist, a former producer for the CBS news program “48 Hours Mystery, pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempting to extort $2 million dollars from Letterman by threatening to reveal affairs with women who worked on his CBS late show.

Robert Halderman reached a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to attempted grand larceny in exchange for serving six months in jail, performing 1,000 hours of community service and giving up his right to appeal.
In the courtroom, Halderman said, “I have great remorse and sincerely apologize to David Letterman and Stephanie Birkitt. I attempted to extort $2 million from David Letterman.” Halderman called it “a thinly veiled threat.”
