Simon Monjack, widower of actress Brittany Murphy, died on May, 23, 2010 at the Hollywood Hills home the couple shared until her death five months ago. Sharon Murphy found her son-in-law unconscious in his master bedroom at 9:40 p.m. Sunday night and called 911.
Paramedics were unable to resuscitate 39-year-old Monjack. A death investigation has been initiated to determine cause of death. The initial finding is death from cardiac arrest of undetermined origin. Sgt. Alex Ortiz said, “We concluded there were no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved.”
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said, “This evening, Mr. Monjack was found unresponsive, paramedics responded to the house, he was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. There were no illicit drugs located — just prescription medications. Cause of death is pending and there will be an autopsy and pending toxicology. We will release the results after we get all of those tests back.”
Monjack and Murphy married in 2007. At her funeral, he called her his best friend and soul mate. He said they had been planning a family and considering a move to New York at the time of her death.
Sharon discovered her daughter’s body on December 20, 2009. The autopsy found that the 32-year-old died due to pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication.
