Campus Progress, an organization that works for and with young people to push for progressive change, took part in the national Vote Again 2010 video contest which urges young voters to continue to be politically active.

In their clever video they appeal to young people and encourage them to get out and vote, if not for themselves, then do it for Bieber. The group claims that young people like politics when it is relevant to them, so poking fun at America’s biggest pop star seemed to be a good way to grab the attention of young voters.

The political activists realize that their message won’t resonate with everyone but hope people don’t lose sight of the mission. Campus Progress said: “The point is this – while our Bieber video was satirical, the underlying message is no laughing matter. While members of Congress may have the power to vote for or against legislation, we have the power to vote for or against every one of them.”

The statement went on to say, “There’s a lot at stake this November 2nd whether you’re voting for Bieber, energy reform, immigration reform, LGBT equality, or job creation. Election Day is our day, and it gives us an opportunity to make ourselves heard and have the last laugh.”

The Washington Post called it the “worst political ad ever.” Others weighing in were Vanity Fair, Politico and CNN – with most pointing out the obvious…Bieber, a Canadian minor, has a fan base with an average age of 12-years-old.
