With the Republican field still not producing a dominant front-runner, Donald Trump appears to be waffling on his earlier decision not to run for president.

In a weekend interview with CNBC, Trump said: “If the economy continues to be bad…if the Republicans pick the wrong candidate, I would give it very, very serious thought.”

The bit of information that he didn’t share was whether he’s mount that run as a Republican or opt instead to take on the spoiler role as a third party candidate. The most successful such candidate in modern times was billionaire Ross Perot in the 1992 presidential election. He received 18.9% of the popular vote, leading 20 million people away from the mainstream candidates.

In the short term, Trump has committed to another season of his popular NBC reality show The Celebrity Apprentice 5, filming now and slated to run from mid-September to mid-December 2011.

One person who will have a “real problem” with a Trump presidential run … his teenage daughter Tiffany Trump. The 17-year-old, born during his five year union with actress and socialite Marla Maples, recently weighed in on the subject.
