The next installment of the Batman franchise is sure to be jam packed with action, but all that action is making it a little dangerous on the set in Pittsburgh, PA.

An accident involving the Batwing vehicle occurred today during filming. The large black flying contraption, mounted on a wheeled chassis that propels it through the streets and around sharp corners, hit an overhead traffic-light stanchion during a chase scene.

The good news is that everyone is safe and no injuries occurred. The bad news is that the Batwing was damaged in the unplanned accident, halting production for an hour.

A stunt double for Ann Hathaway crashed the Batpod into some expensive camera equipment while filming a tricky Catwoman scene last week. She was unhurt but the camera was destroyed.

The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, is set to be released in July 2012.
