Rick Springfield was arrested this morning, March 8, on a bench warrant in Malibu, CA.
The singer and former “General Hospital” star, who is set to return to the soap in April, was arrested for failure to appear in court for a DUI charge.
Springfield was arrested in May of 2011 when he failed a field sobriety test and allegedly threatened an officer when he was pulled over in Malibu and the officer smelled alcohol and noted signs of intoxication.
The Jessie’s Girl hitmaker was expected to appear before a judge last month to prove he had completed a court-ordered alcohol education program as part of the plea deal he struck with prosecutors. He failed to show and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday. Police went to the singer’s Los Angeles home on Friday to execute the warrant and he was taken into custody.
The 63-year-old singer posted a photo of the Lost Hills Sheriff Station on Facebook, saying, “My home away from home. Lost hills sheriff station. Arrested this am on a bench warrant. I didn’t know that I was supposed appear in court a few weeks ago. It was to do with the old DUI charge and it’s been cleared up and i am free to go. Thought I might miss the gig (sic) tonite but I will be there and we will celebrate together.
Life is not boring.
XOXO”
He was also arrested in 2000 for spousal abuse after his wife, Barbara Springthorpe, was observed with “minor injuries to her face and arm” after police responded to a 911 call. Those charges were dropped for “lack of sufficient evidence.” He addressed the issue in a VH1 Behind the Music Anniversary Special shortly after, saying, “We’re together and we’re going to work it out.”
Springfield is scheduled to perform at the Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville, CA, tonight.
