Forget beef.
Tension, revelations and a whole lot of anger were for dinner on The Originals Season 2 Episode 3.
A very focused hour, this installment centered on a family reunion between Klaus, Elijah, Finn and Esther, per the latter’s invitation.
The meal opened with Finn reuniting with his brothers, a tad peeved over why they kept him daggered for 900 years. A few old wounds were opened back up, but that was nothing compared to the bomb Esther dropped once she arrived.
She told a story about Klaus’ childhood and a certain necklace she gave her son.
She claimed at the time that it would enable him to call on her mother at any time, but then Klaus realized the truth in present day: this necklace was cursed to actually take away his powers. To make him weaker.
Esther said she did this to control his rage, but Klaus was having none of it. He screamed at his mother about how she made him into the pathetic person his father hates and just as his anger was hitting its most fevered pitch…
… Esther dropped dead.
But not really. She really just left the body she had been occupying and hopped over to the body of Lenore, a witch who was hanging with Hayley and trying to help our heroes.
Not that witch is occupied by Esther and she finally made her purpose clear: she wants to rid all of her children (including Hayley) of the vampire gene. She wants to right the wrong she believes she created so many centuries ago.
And she tells Finn – after letting Klaus, Elijah and Hayley go free for now – that she’ll go to ANY length in order make her children beg her to do this.
So we guess she somehow needs their permission? It’s a tad unclear.
Also, toward the end of the episode, Elijah started to train Gia for real as a newly turned vampire because he felt a sense of responsibility.
What did everyone else think of this Originals installment? Is Esther a worthy villain? When will we next see Mikael?
