After some scores and performances that left little room for improvement, and some that the stars and the judges alike might soon forget, the field has narrowed.

At the end of Dancing With the Stars Season 19 Episode 8 ...

Michael Waltrip, Jonathan Bennett and Janel Parrish were all in jeopardy of leaving, and it is announced that Michael is ... safe to dance another week!

That was a bit of a shocker right there, but between Jonathan and Janel, the answer is clear that Jonathan has to go. The Mean Girls cast member took it well.

See all of last night's scores after the jump:

Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson: Alfonso pulled his groin doing the Carlton dance last week and had to rehearse around the injury. His hip-hop influenced salsa routine to J. Lo’s “Booty” re-injured it, but Carrie Ann spanked him 10 times … a sneak peek of his total points from her. Score: 39.

Bethany Mota and Derek Hough: They had little time to prepare, given her YouTube promotion schedule (seriously), and producers devoted a lot of tape to how unprepared they were. You wouldn't know it by the performance they put forth. Score: 36.

Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas: Her Duck Dynasty father Willie must approve all her outfits, so Mark was tasked with striking a balance between Sadie’s modestly and choreographing a slightly racy rumba to "Diamonds." Mission accomplished Score: 35.

Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy: Are they dating? Are they not? It's unclear. Is Val a hunk with his shirt off? Can she dance the samba pretty darn well, albeit not with tremendous passion? You bet. Score: 33.

Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev: Lea went for a samba to “Sexy People,” which features Pitbull. Bold move, but he and the others seemed to like it. Score 32.

Jonathan Bennett and Allison Holker: After a dismal performance last week, Jonathan and Allison wore suits and ties for a jazz routine to Pitbull’s “Back in Time.” His effort paid off, and the judges seemed to appreciate it, praising his work. Score: 32.

Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater: After last week’s dismal effort, Michael went to Talladega to renew his self-esteem on the race track. It did the trick. His Argentine tango was easily his best dance of the year so far. Score: 30.

Antonio Sabato Jr. and Cheryl Burke: A nearly-shirtless salsa was clearly enjoyable and may earn him enough votes to stay, but technically it was lacking. Score: 28.

Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd: Pitbull dubbed Tommy “the most interesting man in the world,” and Julianne said he might be around this show a long time. On personality. Score: 28.

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
