While many of her siblings have chosen to keep a lower profile in the wake of recent family controversies, Joy-Anna Duggar is more visible than ever these days.
Joy runs a YouTube channel with more than 200,000 subscribers, and while her husband works a full-time job, social media is probably the couple’s primary source of income.
The mother of three also has 1.1 million followers on Instagram, and her most popular posts have to do with her kids and home life.
So it makes sense that when Joy and husband Austin Forsyth embarked on a family camping excursion over the weekend, she documented the occasion on social media.
But if she had known what sort of reaction she would receive, Joy might have thought twice about posting so many pics.
“I could camp every weekend and 10/10 recommend tent camping in the fall,” Joy captioned the post about her family’s latest wilderness adventure.
Joy received the usual positive feedback from her supporters, but she also attracted a lot of criticism from commenters who thought that the trip highlighted her flaws as a parent.
Some of Joy’s followers complained that her youngest son, Gunner, appeared to be improperly dressed for the chilly weather.
“You’re bundled up but the baby is exposed. Doesn’t make much sense now does it?” one critic wrote.
“Why isn’t the baby dressed,” another added,
We suppose that’s a legitimate concern, but the people who were complaining don’t actually know what the weather was like.
Maybe Joy was just bundled up because she liked her outfit!
Even more ridiculous were the complaints about the perceived cleanliness of Joy’s kids.
“Keep your daughter clean, she’s always dirty. She never has shoes on,” wrote one rude commenter.
“Not expecting her to be perfect at all. Just expecting her to have common sense,” this person later added.
“That isn’t the only picture where he’s exposed and everyone else is bundled up. That’s great she wants to share but that’s also the chance you take when you post a photo that is questionable.”
“They always look so dirty,” another hater agreed.
Thankfully, Joy did have some defenders.
“I feel bad for these sweet celeb moms trying to share their life with us, but are then expected to be PERFECT and make sure every detail of every photo doesn’t show any signs of them being human beings,” one person wrote, adding, “Ridiculous.”
The Duggars are a problematic bunch, there’s certainly no doubt about that.
But that doesn’t mean that Joy deserves to be mom-shamed every time she posts some pics or video of her family.
She might co-sign some of Jim Bob Duggar’s bizarre beliefs, but it’s important to bear in mind that Joy is one of his victims as well.
